Day 12: for GoDogGo Café

leaning fence in the snow

A BOOK CALLED “TODAY A WOMAN WENT MAD IN THE SUPERMARKET”
….. assuming that a supermarket is a street corner

on a day that was bald and bright
and suddenly white, and she keeps
walking, led blindfolded by the Fates.

Just following her feet, step after step
inside her head, deep in a fog, drowning
out herself. A disconnect. And then,

she steps off the curb, and walks.
In front of a car. It stopped. Hard.
She recalls her eyes locking on that

dim moment, on the driver, and
how her darkness might’ve marked
that person … forever.

  1. Wow, Misky. You’re really hardcore about this prompt.

    It stopped. Hard.
She recalls her eyes locking on that

dim moment, on the driver, and
    how…

    That’s terrifying!

    1. I don’t actually know what you mean by “hardcore”. For me, hardcore is debris and rubble in a building site, or sometimes a person who’s fanatical. But thanks for taking the time to read it.

      1. I meant – very intense/committed to going through all of the titles 🙂

  2. I agree with David. THis is super powerful! I think you have described so concisely and shockingly one of the terrifying things about forgetting to be present. Do you mind me asking, though, why you changed to past tense just for the stopping of the car?

    1. There was something about that moment that pulled me out of a deep depression after my father died. Before that moment, time stopped for me (as if being stuck). But the moment’s never left me.

        1. Thanks very much. I don’t usually “expose” myself all over the internet like that because what you write survives in some archive long after you’ve popped your clogs. I might actually put it behind a password in a few days.
