The Old Woman With No Cat

Tuesday, Explained by a Cat

The cat motions the old woman
to the armchair with one deliberate paw.

“Sit.
We need to talk …about Tuesday.”

She sits.
He leaps onto the armrest,
tail wrapped around his feet like a professor’s robe.

“Tuesday,” he begins,
“is not a day.
It is a concept.
A flawed concept.

Exhibit A: Monday has purpose.
It is universally hated.
A cat can respect that.

Exhibit B: Wednesday is hump day.
A strange name,
but it has topography.
Ambition.

But Tuesday?
Tuesday is… beige.
It is the middle child.
No one loathes it.
No one celebrates it.
It just… exists.
And that, old woman,
is unacceptable.”

She blinks.
“So… what do you propose?”

He leans in.
“We rename it.
‘Treats-day.’”
Or my personal favoUrite:
‘The Day the Can Opener Shines Brightest.’

We give it meaning.
We give it flavour.
We give it… sardines.”

He sits back, satisfied.
“You’re welcome.
Now—
about implementing it
starting this week…”

  4. Cute, Misky. I am sure my kitty, Daggus, would be in favor of ‘Treats-day’ all day long.

  5. The cat’s argument that Tuesday is ‘beige’ because it lacks the strong identity of Monday or Wednesday is oddly persuasive — it makes me wonder how many other days we just tolerate without questioning their purpose. If you’re ever tempted to bring this kind of surreal, character-driven storytelling to life as a short animated piece, something like seedance 2.0 video maker could be a fun way to experiment with motion and voice without needing a full production setup. Either way, the writing here has a lovely, dry wit that carries the whole piece.

  6. The cat’s argument that Tuesday is “beige” because nobody loathes or celebrates it lands well, especially with the line about Monday having purpose through universal hatred — that’s a sharper piece of logic than most defenses of the week’s middle days get. Does the series keep the cat as the one doing the theorizing, or does the old woman get a turn to dismantle the case? the series
