Ten Things of Thankful

AI art. the words Ten Things of Thankful on a white background with a bouquet of white tulips

Rain, rain, hail and thunder as temperatures dropped to normal for a few days. I baked bread early one morning, froze the loaves to eat later, and then we had a power cut for nearly four hours.

1) A good crop of apples seems likely this year. “June Drop” will thin out the apples on crowded branches. Nature knows best.

2) Always thankful that my fishmonger is good for a chat while he weighs out my ‘fishy Friday’  purchase.

3) The scent of this particular old fashioned climbing rose is quite simply intoxicating. And it’s very pretty, too.

4) My favourite flower. Always and without exception. My pink peonies.

5) Thankful that the shop where I bought my husband’s Oura Ring agreed to exchange it for one with a battery life as advertised. No fuss. They just replaced it. They have a customer for life in me now.

6)  The dry weather is stressing the plants, which means the ants are ‘farming’ green fly. Green fly produce a sugary sap which the ants use as food. I’m thankful for a bit of washing-up liquid and water in a spray bottle to save my plants.

7)   Thankful that Peder staked up my peonies after the rain and wind finished. That storm swept eastward and played havoc with the French Open.

8)    Thankful that my friend, Mike, was feeling well enough to join his dog, Hector, for a walk. Hector forces Mike outside for fresh air and a bit of exercise. Mike grumbles, but that’s okay.

9)  Denise’s Six Sentence Story prompts and the Liturgy that I write for it. Brigid and Felreil are in Aries, France, this week and next.

10) Thankful for a walk. Level ground; no roots to trip over.

    1. The riddle: three feet. Two of mine and a walking stick. And Hector, the dog, is worth his weight in gold.

Wishing you a good week, too.

  3. That looks like a pleasant trail. The peonies and climbing rose look beautiful. I forgot that they should have a smell as well.

  4. I enjoyed this photo list. I hope the bread loaves didn’t object too much to the disruption of comfort due to their sudden temperature change.

    1. The loaves managed okay — just took a little longer than usual to rise. Sourdough is very sensitive to temperature and barometric swings, and we’ve sure had those this week!

    1. This is the second year that the peonies have set blossoms, so next year should be even better. Hopefully the weather doesn’t stress them like these past two weeks have. Hope your week is brilliant, Reelika.

  8. Yes, it looks like another good year for apples, fingers crossed, I picked from several trees last year, that had so many apples, you would not think I had touched them! I have never grown peonies, I don’t think they would do well in our container garden but I do love them…

    Have a good week, Marilyn!
