A Month of Writing Negative Space Poetry

True Stain

she called it widow poetry.
a dead art. feeble stuff
you’d say to a cat
because there’s nobody else
to talk to.

her language went dry as sand

until one day she read
William Shakespeare’s
The Rape of Lucrece.

the blind fate of language,
she said,
swelled her own words
with heat and light.

today’s prompt word: True (blank)
