Ten Things of Thankful

AI art. the words Ten Things of Thankful on a white background with a bouquet of white tulips

Two weeks into the April Poem-a-Day Challenge, and I’ve not run out of ink yet. My Ten this week are centred around home. Spring is coming on fast paced; chores done and more created; a new garden project. The charging pod for my car is installed, so no more power cords hanging out the kitchen window to my little electric car (named: Renny). So here are my TToT.

I. Thankful that the old Apostle Trees agree that spring has arrived. It’s beginning to unfurl its leaves. The oaks will be next.

II. Fixed the slow-draining shower drain, all because is this silly piece of plastic. Thankful that it is fixed. Plumbing. Pah!

III. Perfect words, like this one: Drizzerable.

Drizzle + Miserable = Drizzerable.

IV. The grapevine is setting leaves, and it had its ‘winter-wash’ a few weeks ago. Thankful that I didn’t delay doing it because you can’t spray it after the leaves start appearing.

V. Ladybirds (ladybugs in the USA). Thankful for their voracious appetite for aphids. Not particular thankful that they over-winter in the window frames though.

VI. Thankful, always, for a little bit of luck. A little four leaf clover.

VII. The hostas are just starting to open, those beautifully cylindrical leaves that obey the law of Fibonacci and the golden ratio.

VIII. Thankful that the delivery man set the bags of slate chips, 180 kilos, behind the gate for me. Garden project under the kitchen window.

IX. Thankful for everyone who bought a copy of ST(R)AY and are now, or will soon, enjoy Nick’s beautiful photographs. ST(R)AY has even found its way to Colombia!

X. Humour. Thankful for its relief from the daily onslaught of insanity around the world right now.

  2. We name our cars, too. They almost become friends.

As always, it’s a lovely ten, and I do hope you sell out of your book and have to print more.

    1. ST(R)AY’s publishers are a print-on-demand organisation, so I don’t have closets filled with them as if they were Girl Scout cookies.

Hope your week is all your hope, Mimi.

  3. Buffalo Springfield aiyeee It’s funny about music. Of course it has the capacity to send the listener back in time. But that difference between (the memory) of a song when it was new versus music that you might develop a taste for later in life (in my case country music). An entirely different (emotional) timbre.

Grat II there are two types of repair I will not attempt at home: plumbing and electric. Props to you for overcoming a problem in the plumbing.

Grat VII I did not that about hosta (hostae?) lol cool

have a very satisfying week up there in the near-term future!

    1. Agree about songs. That particular song puts me walking home on a wooded footpath from my high school — not that I listened to it walking home because there were no portal devices of that sort then.

All the best to you for your week, too.

  5. Oo. The garden seems to have gotten the notes of it being spring.

I dream of having one on one day too… as a person who grew up running barefoot between growing produce and flowers.

I could almost smell it from the photos.

Loved tour list! Made me nostalgic for a garden.
