20.11: Ten Things of Thankful

In no particular order:

1. Snow. SNOW!

I woke to icy cold weather, damp and drizzling, and my mood plummeted. I’d been feeling under the weather, and now I was really under the weather.

And then it started snowing. How exciting! How fun! How child-like snow can make me feel.

Time for a video.

2. My great-grandmother’s obsidian ring. It was removed from her finger when she died, and given to her daughter, my grandmother, and then passed along to me. I had the ring repaired and resized, and I’m thankful to carry on that tradition of wearing it.

3. A walk in the Romney Saltwater Marshes. A stark and moody place that I adore; old churches; cemeteries that struggle to keep old bones from rising to the surface. It is said that “The world…is divided into Europe, Asia, Africa, America — and Romney Marsh.” The Romney Marshes are the inspiration for Dickens’ Great Expectations.

4. A greatly needed 10-hour sleep that left me feeling much better than the day previous.

5. Feeding the swans and ducks at the village local pond. It’s very relaxing, except when you run out of food for them (not bread!!) —

and they start chasing after you.  😂

6. Chicken soup with a fluffy dumplings.

7. Thankful that winter doesn’t last forever.

8. Extremely thankful that my renewed passport arrived in good time.

9. Thankful that my arm continues to improve, albeit slowly.

10. Ever so (ever so!) thankful that the neighbour helped Peder clear the leaf debris from our roof gutters. Rain water was spilling out and over at places.

  1. Gosh, you had snow? Nothing at all here though the rain felt sleety when I had to go to the dentist first thing yesterday.

  2. Yes, enough to cover the ground — and then 2 hours later, it was all gone. But it was enormously uplifting to my mood for a little while.

  3. Beautiful list with equally beautiful illustrations. I know some people are affected by the weather and lack of light. May you recover soon. Best wishes for a better week ahead.

  4. Snow makes us swamp creatures both cautious and giddy, we aren’t quite sure what to do with it as it comes so seldom.

I really enjoyed your list and your illustrations and photos which go along so well with it.

    1. Oh I had so much fun making these, and I might just start making more rather than hunting down photos.

    1. There absolutely is. I am glad that I’m not up in Scotland though. They really had a lot of snow and temps down to -7°.

    1. reminderation: It’s a real’afide* word now. And btw, 29 more days? Are you going on hols where it’s summer, or …

*apt to be a ‘real’ word by the end of year. Oxford Dictionary is always declaring daft words as real’afide.

  9. A beautiful opener, Misky! I love taking videos of first snows, whether a dusting or the beginning of a heavy snowfall. But then I’m done with it, lol. I hope this comment finds you feeling back to your fabulous self! 10 hours of sleep sounds heavenly and more so followed by a bowl of chicken soup.I fear I’ve been out of the loop, unaware of the problem with your arm. I’m happy that you feel it improving.

    1. Just pushed the envelope a bit too far, and needed to rest up. All good.

Arm: Had a very hard fall in October while we were in Avignon; very impressive bruises, and an x-ray that revealed a chipped bone fragment floating in my elbow.

Hope your Thanksgiving is a joy, Denise.
