7.04: Poem-a-Day Challenge

The Birdbath Aleph

the old woman with no cat
refills the birdbath.

it’s half-rusted,
and holds all the water
and thirst of the sky.

a single feather
floats like a comma
in god’s draft
of the world.

the cat is a cosmic overlord,
watching.

“The ocean,” he marvels,
“is just a birdbath
for baptising
fragments of heaven.”

    1. When I hear birdsong like this in the forest, it stops from feet and every random thought from moving past the music.

    1. We’ve had so little rain — and I saw a squirrel drinking from the birdbath this evening. I’ve never seen that before.
