2 November: She Shapes the Wind

She Shapes the Wind

From here,
She feels the chalk cliffs breathe.
Below her,

The Atlantic exhales in waves,
And inhales wild vapours
Into its kelp roots.

She comes here
When her mind is a hive,
When her heart despairs.

She can lean
Into a wall of wind, and hold
Mirrors to her soul’s window.

Vigilance is here,
Watching for those who seek
Peace of mind. Or to jump.

And one day, when she’s forever
Deprived you of herself, you might
Come to find her peace of mind.

She will always be here, forever
And afterwards, shaping wind
for you to lean into.

  1. That art is striking. I have a photo of that same view somewhere. I wonder what it looked like last night?

    1. Horrific, I think. Jersey hit top wind speed of 105mph last night. We seem to have survived the worst of it. A few trees down on the Brighton mainline but crews are already out. Hope you managed the night without damage, Pete.

      1. No damage that I can see, but it woke me up and I’m always worried that a nearby tree will topple onto the house!
I can’t even pressure the owner to cut it down as it doesn’t seem to have an owner!

    1. Be glad that you’re not standing out there on Beachy head because it’s blowing a hooley out there!

  3. Standing on the Edge… face to the wind… what is, what can, what won’t… all in a delicate balance.
I know these cliffs. I have flown close to them, circled the lighthouse.
    Always returning.

  4. Enduring a night of a hurricane’s tempestuous fury is always scary for me. In two ways: the thought of what damage is happening just outside my door and above my roof — and what I will find when dawn peeks out with me at the damage!

This just might be my favorite of your verses, Misky.

Now, to go to work to see if I still have a job. We have newly installed cameras that film us as we drive … even down lonely deserted country roads. To be terminated for a rolled through stop sign with no one is sight for miles will be tough.

My first NOIR-vember tale is now posted. It was written yesterday, the Mexican Day of the Dead … and it shows. 🙂

    1. Yes, well you’ve been through hell in a hand basket with your weather. Ours lasted for about 36-hours and now it’s heading for Europe. I don’t envy them; it’s a bad one. I’ll be over to yours tonight, Roland. Take care in the roads.
