dVerse Quadrille #150: Chalk

Beachy Head Sussex
Beachy Head Sussex

The Crumbling Chalk Cliffs of Sussex

I’m standing here
on this wind-swept headland,
parts of it worn away
by Atlantic storms.
Torn.
Renewed.
Replaced.
Time-slips into geography.
It’s old bones behaving badly,
these crumbling chalk cliffs.
It’s the nation’s chalkboard
to all those who sail our
indistinguishable thoughts
between words.

    1. Yes it’s real. The chalk cliffs stretch from Sussex to Kent, ie “the white cliffs of Dover “.

    1. Yes. Their cliffs are also crumbling like ours. France and England used to be connected during the Ice Age.
