Or Bring Me A Net

I want no part of rats
‘though they’re hard to avoid
running in gullies
and in the voids underground
found in rivers
swimming upstream
racing through schoolyards
and through holes in the fence.
There are more rats
      than cats by far …

Did you know Parisians ate rat in coq au vin, in beef bourguignon with mushrooms and sweet tiny onions during the Siege of Paris.

        …so bring me a rat catcher,
send me your Pied Piper, bring me
a wicked child wanting to
poke a pet with a stick.

            Or just bring me a net.
