GloPoWriMo: Day 5 – Mythical

Hey Mum, My Name Is Icarus

I said the sun was too far away,
and I ran like a stag, head down,

and fast as scenery flashing by
when you sit in a car, and stare
unblinkingly into a forest while
Dad speeds along the dirt track,

and I jumped off the brick wall,
my arms feathered in pillowcases,

and I remember the wild sound
of a bone in my foot snapping
as my full weight hit the ground.

  6. My (childhood) neighbor, Frankie, jumped off the toolshed roof holding a pillowcase, assuming it would parachute him safely down. Two broken ankles and lifelong shaming.
    Great stuff, Misky.
