A View of the Cherry Tree in Moonlight

The cherry tree is kissed by moonlight, it wakes as I sleep, as silver slides between its limbs, as my heart gently knocks against my ribs like uneven stairs. It wakes me from soundlessness and breathing, and even in first hours after midnight, I see moonbeams spread a ghostly coat through the garden. Night holds a silver light to the cherry blossoms, and they seek pleasure in their own brief joy. And they shine beyond the dark eyes of night.

Look long and deeply
Awaken light in spring’s heart
Joy is on our lips.

  7. Now I just have to see a cherry tree in blossom in the moonlight. Well, I can see it in your word pictures but I need to see it for myself too. Cool.

  10. A beautiful poem to match the image. It is such a shame that the blossom on cherry trees doesn’t hang around very long.

    1. I suppose that’s what makes it seem so special, the way strawberries were special before they were available year-round.

        1. I only buy cherries in season, and only if they’re coming from Kent or Sussex. We have lots of orchards down here so no reason to buy them from Spain or France.

          1. 👍 Fruit and veg are so much better when they are local and in season.
