The trouble with Salt
And then the sea dawns. Its salt dissolves into salt, into itself. It’s a new day of slow dehydration. A life-long osmosis into dust and dryness. Dry words, dry humour, dried up and wrinkled … wrinkles on thin skinned; wrinkles in plans; wrinkles in love … And the sea’s tongue grates the sand, roiling and rolling over as we stand in the waves and face the red-eye dawn, the sun rising and the sea grabbing at our ankles. And it dawns on us, this salt cannot dissolve us … as we throw salt over our shoulder and invite the devil to our table.
My footprints are gone
And the sea is still singing
Turning into rain
(Note: this thing is full of metaphors. I just write this stuff; I don’t actually understand it.)
