Laundry Day

Hand into his pocket, pulled it inside out,
and she found the note she’d  written him.

One small jar
of peanut butter,
to replace the one
you emptied –

This is just to say it’s

a pity that you
didn’t tell me,
my toast was just
a smear of jam.

Love you more than William Carlos Williams
loves his plums.
