A Triolet: In the Spirit of Loaves and Fishes

It’s been rising for an hour,
no loaves & fishes, only bread.
A floury snow across the counter,
it’s been rising for an hour.
In a veil of cloud and pale powder,
on the rug, crumbs will spread.
It’s been rising for an hour,
no loaves & fishes, only bread.

Poetic Asides (aka PA) A Spirit poem, and a Triolet for NaPoWriMo Day 12. Triolet Form restraint ABaAabAB The triolet is a short poem of eight lines with only two rhymes used throughout. The requirements of this fixed form are straightforward: the first line is repeated in the fourth and seventh lines; the second line is repeated in the final line; and only the first two end-words are used to complete the tight rhyme scheme.

  1. (Glad your baking supplies arrived in time). Triolet works so well here – the ‘it’s only bread’ refrain has a strength and plainness that outweighs all the gourmet tricks. Delicious.
