Liturgy for the Proof in the Photograph
(for the moment the past confirms what you thought)
I. The Search Through the Silent Faces
You spread them out like evidence;
photographs that have waited in drawers,
their corners curled, their colours fading,
their smiles fixed in a time you never lived.
You are not looking for memories,
but proof.
A face. A shadow at the edge of the frame.
Something that will confirm
what you believe in your bones.
The faces stare back at you,
patient, keeping their secrets
as they have always done.
II. The Detail That Changes Everything
And then a detail.
A gap in the timeline.
A name written
on the back of a photograph.
Your pulse quickens.
Not joy … something sharper,
electric certainty
that you’ve found it.
The past has spoken.
III. The Adrenaline of Being Right
There is a terrible pleasure in it;
the thrill of the detective,
the puzzle unraveling ,
the rush of blood
that comes when suspicion.
It becomes evidence.
It is not what you wanted to hear,
what the photograph has revealed.
You sit with your proof,
your heart hammering,
holding a piece of paper
that has changed everything.
IV. The Weight of Knowing
And then,
the adrenaline fades.
What remains is the photograph,
and the suspicion it carries.
You cannot unknow it.
Being right
is not the same as being free.
Proof binds you tightly
to what you have discovered.
And now you must decide
what to do with it.
V. For the One Who Found Proof
See the photos that waited in silence.
See the detail that changed everything.
May it be a guide, not a master.
May you carry this puzzle as a key
because the past
does not always stay buried,
sometimes it waits in a photograph,
patient as a held breath,
until the right pair of eyes
looks closely enough
to see.
