Ten Things of Thankful

1. Thankful for plants that thrive in searing heat and high humidity, scoff at slugs and snails, and attract every bee in the neighbourhood. Thank you Woodland Germander or Woodland Sage. Also thankful for Claude AI who correctly named this plant after Peder tossed away the label that came with it. 

2. A slow walk, fresh air, and a quiet moment with my thoughts.

3. Very thankful for the advice to see a physiotherapist about my calf muscle. It continues to improve day by day, but it’s apt to slow me down for a while when we’re in Denmark and Sweden. My sturdy walking stick is now in the car.

Thank you.

4. Happy that the heatwave of last week has moved on. It seems a new one is heading our way from the weekend onward, but probably not as severe as last week. 

5. Six Sentence Stories hosted by Denise. The last instalment of Brigid’s Provence Diary, and a walk-on into Room 215 in the SSC&B.

6.  Nature in my garden. A grey squirrel with its cheeks full of winter to come.

7. Daisies blooming: my second favourite flower. Peonies are still my favourite. 

8. When you have your phone in hand, and remember to take the photo before the subject flies away.

9 Reflection and perspective. Always thankful for that.

10. Time with the family in Denmark and Sweden starting at the end of next week. Grandchildren, sons, daughter-in-laws, cousins, brothers, all of them.

    You know that saying about if you need to supply a User Manual, you’ve made it too complex? I’ve a feeling that applies to bushes, too. Just not quite sure how.
    He can’t be worse than the “gardener” who cut down my roses. My gratitude is that one of them reappeared this year.

      Roses are amazingly resilient. Mine have survived years of drought and hosepipe bans with just the occasional bucket of water. And cutting back healthy roses will do them little harm, although pulling them up from their roots is apt to be problematic.

        I just leave mine. Don’t cut them back, don’t head-head them. Just let them be. I just tie them back so they’re out of people’s faces. I’ve grown to really like them over the years..

          I like any plant that can survive mucky winter clay, and cope with summer’s bone-dry ,cracked soil. Gardening isn’t nearly as easy as it used be. And now hosepipe ban goes into effect at midnight.

    a bucketful of thanks … spending time with plants is a great way to pour thanks all over … the heat humidity then the rain again turning back to heat … I’m trying to save a couple of lavender shoots and it’s not going well … can only hope … my plant favz change all the time but at the top is lavender … spending time in thoughtful contemplation on a walk is always a good thing … somehow as usual coming in late with my 10 this week .. went to post and it was closed … had to laugh … oh well catch it next week .. glad to hear your ankle(s) are getting some reprieve… I wear these great socks that have some sort of infrared thread in them and work great for support … not tight are all … just a wee bit … but work really well … have another great week … now onto the 6SS .. really enjoying all the stories at the bistro & cafe …

        Once I get home I’ll send you the link… I’m wearing them now … they’re short and comfy … I also have gloves because I’ve been hand sewing and crocheting for years and gardening… my hands are starting to get stiff and numb… I put those on … oh my gosh like day and night …

            Noppers … I am in the good ol US of A .. specifically northeast Idaho near the Canadian border… beautiful area full of evergreen trees mts valleys and lots and lots of lakes and rivers … my home my heart

    I hope you will have a great time in Denmark…. You definitely deserve it… And that squirrel!!! Am jealous, the other day I took a photo of one and it jumped away so I was left with a photo of some furry thing in the air 😂.

      That silly squirrel just hangs there, looking over the fence at who knows what. Perhaps at the little dog with big voice next door. Or perhaps he’s waiting for the apples to ripen. Thank you for the good wishes for my calf — very much appreciated — it’s improving thanks to a few sessions of physio.

      I’m hoping for a good wifi connection at the house in Denmark, and then I’ll be able to read of your adventures at SSC&B.

    yow! such a broad array of Grats (and attendant photation)

    Our recent heatwave has just ended so… sorry (lol) only lasted 3 or 4 days so

    loved the shadow photo and, of course, anything with boats (cool feature, the net drum on the dock (sans trawler)

    how do you manage to take photos that somehow look like paintings (the sea gull) or famous French Impressionist (Grat #2)?

    have a very good trip (good that you had someone near to offer sound advice)

      Thanks for good wishes for the trip. Should make for some good TToTs over the coming weeks.

      We’ve another “heat dome” building this week, but we’re leaving it behind on Wednesday. Inevitably, weather patterns travel eastward so we’ll be baking in the land of the midnight sun probably. But the grandchildren will love it because we’ve rented a big old house on the beach so they can go swimming.
