Ten Things of Thankful

lighthouse drawing

An interesting week that ended with all is well.

1) I am thankful for quick meals. A Spanish tortilla of onion and potato, and a lot of eggs. ¡Esto está delicioso!

It’s difficult to see from the photo, but it’s about 2″ high.

2) All of the tomato seedlings are now proper plants, and growing in the greenhouse. Slugs only managed to devour two plants out twelve.

We save some of the seeds from store-bought tomatoes (wash, dry, store), and it’s surprising how many of them germinate the following year. By August, we’ll be thankful for this crop.

June. That means the borders are blooming in their blue and white stage. My favourite.

The lavender is humming with bees.

One of my least favourite jobs, done. The oven is clean.

Thankfully.

I love the country lanes in Sussex. The higher the verge on either side of the road, the older the road is.

This road is old.

Thankful for the views at Beachy Head, and not just the chalk cliffs, but the fields and sheep, and the old lighthouse (decommissioned), and the broad, endless summer sky.

The air was full of the sound of lambs and sheep.

World Cup enthusiasm: it even extends to this fisherman wearing his Union Jack t-shirt.

Thankful for humour and good fun.

Reflections: and the best fish and chips in Eastbourne. I know a lot of people won’t agree with me on this restaurant chain, but they consistently never disappoint.

Thankful for cod. Thankful for chips fried up proper.

Free electricity all day on Sunday: charged the cars; baked bread; three loads of laundry; towels dried in the tumble drier; vacuumed the house.

Thank you, Électricité de France.

The cucumber seedling survived the short albeit intense heatwave.

Thankful because fresh cucumbers straight off the vine are so much better than those in the supermarket.
