Second Voice
The caves
remain
after the voices leave.
Dark openings in rock,
like mouths
pausing
before speaking,
where questions go
that are no longer satisfied
with easy answers.
A man enters the cave
carrying his voice.
Years later, two voices leave.
One asks.
One answers.
Again.
And again.
Until the words
wear smooth.
The stone keeps
the argument
long after the man
is gone.
