Her Heart
She will always
be my last—
last dog,
last thought.
Blind and deaf,
I held her
when the stroke came,
felt her heart
against the pulse
inside my arms.
She left
her shadow
in my heart.
Her name
was Molly.

Losing our fur-buddies is so difficult … Chloe the English Spaniel was ours. Your quadrille is sad, it is also beautifully composed.

She has been gone for well over 10 years now, and I have nothing but happy memories of her.

Your quadrille touched me, Marilyn. Our Jasper did the same to me – left a shadow on my heart.

From separate to companions
From distant to entangled
From being to not
And yet… and yet
Still remembered
Still loved
Still here.

Aww, so so sweet… what a beautiful doggy, and such a lovely name – Molly. 🌈

She was, truly, the sweetest dog — and I’ve had several over my lifetime. I swear that sometimes I hear her running across the wood floor in kitchen.

Heartbreaking to lose such a love….

It was very difficult at the time, but I remember her fondly now. That photo actually makes me laugh; she used to drag all of her bedding outside on to the lawn on a sunny day, and there she’d stay (if allowed).

the tragic calculus of love
the price (in enduring the pain) when we see them off into the next world

She died a good few years ago now, and I’m blessed with some of the happiest memories ever of her. That is the return on the price, Clark.

Oh, Misky. Sweet Molly.
As my own soul-dog Kiera Kai just turned 15 this year, this brings true tears. They really do own pieces of our soul, don’t they?

Yes, they do, and we’re so much better for it, De. ❤️

So sad… it is actually one things with having pets… you know that the day will come…

True. And it always does — unless the animal survives you, in which case if nobody is willing to care for it …. which is why she will be my last.

This is so moving, partly because we are entering that moment with our dear woofer.
