AprPAD — Day 30

How to Bend a Spoon

somehow
her younger self still knows —
step back into her shadow.

“the apples will be abundant this year,” she says,
changing the subject.
“ripe before autumn.”

she watches the sun drink from a puddle,
summer not quite here.

“you’re not special,” he says.
“such foolishness.
doula-foola.
nonsense —
humming to a fallen bird,
as if it hears you.”

a crow,
two magpies on the fence,
coincidence
maybe
that they’re watching.

the magpies chatter.
the crow, in its own way,
an old friend.

one after another,

they would deny it too.

still,
she will not leave them
without a word.

  1. “Scientific evidence indicates that the human brain can remain active and register activity for seconds to several minutes after the heart stops pumping blood. While traditional medicine once assumed immediate cessation, modern research has shown that this transition is a gradual process.

Studies suggest that awareness may persist for roughly 2 to 20 seconds after breathing and heartbeat stop, as the brain temporarily survives on residual oxygen.

In some monitored cases during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), brain signals indicating consciousness have been recorded for up to an hour after the heart stopped.
( While electrical activity can continue, permanent, irreversible brain damage generally begins within 4 to 6 minutes without oxygen.)

Some researchers argue that the brain may undergo a intense, compressed period of memory recall or “life review” during these final moments of activity.”

I would argue then, that it is anything but ” nonsense”, YO.

    1. Thank you. I now, not only know what I feel, but have the facts for when I wish to argue them. But now, AO, it’s time to pack for French rain (and eat sardines with lemon olive oil) 🇫🇷

  2. Most interesting, all of those things… from top to bottom, but my first thought was about Uri Geller and the spoon bending – a magic trick?

    1. Thank you, and Geller always said it was no trick, (grinning) but who knows, besides him.
