Ten Things of Thankful

AI art. the words Ten Things of Thankful on a white background with a bouquet of white tulips

I. A walk in the spring sunshine along the coast. Thankful of this view of Seven Sisters and Beachy Head.

II. A 10-metre 3-pin charging cable. Thankful the electrician understood what I was saying; you can’t draw 30-amp off a spur.

III. Thankful that the clocks are finally on British Summertime: spring ahead one hour.

IV. Spring, yes technically, but a cold North wind turned us sub-zero again for a few days. Daffodils dissolved like rice paper. Thankfully, they were almost finished anyway.

V. And so, it figures, weather went warm then cold then warm — and I caught a beastly cold. I will endeavour to find something about it to be thankful for.

VI. My neighbour’s flowering cherry tree. I’m thankful for the view of it.

VII. That the tulips are still going strong and that frost didn’t bother them.

VIII. This week’s Six Sentence Story finds Brigid and Felreil on a paddle-steamer sailing the Rhône river. The Liturgy is here. I am thankful to Denise for organising and posting a prompt word each week.

IX. I am thankful to share some news. Nick (Spira) and I have been working on a book of his B&W film photography with my accompanying poems. The Book is called ST(R)AY. It is published, released and available.
EU and UK: here.
Or in the USA.

If you search ST(R)AY (include the parenthesises, please) it will show up in their worldwide storefront.

X.  My crow who always makes me laugh. He’s busy with sticks this morning.

  1. Congratulations on having published your new book with Nick.

Maybe your crow is building a new nest?

    1. Thank you! As for the crow, I think he likes playing pick up sticks.

  3. Hah! You start off with a lovely walk, another cold that you are striving to find gratitude and then slip in, on your penultimate grat. A NEW BOOK! Brilliant Marilyn!!!

    1. Yes, it was quite a day, yesterday, letting St(r)ay fly free for the public to see. As for the cold, I’m really darned sick and tired of catching colds. January, it was RSV from grandchildren in Colombia (that took over a month to resolve), and then my husband shared his cold virus with me.

  4. A good electrician is a gem (so is a good plumber and a good handyperson).

Congratulations on the book, I’ll be looking for it on payday.

I enjoyed your list very much and pray your cold is soon gone.

  5. Congrats on the book (love the title*)

While I concur with my fellow correspondence on the wish for a speedy recovery… there is the matter of the (occasional) moments of altered reality that sometimes happen (usually 1:15 am or 4:31 pm on the day of the worst of the cold)… but those glimpses, if transcribed quickly enough, can be fiction gold.

    just sayin’

    get well/remain well, soon

*do I detect your graphic sensibility in employment of a parenthesis in the book’s title?… genuis!

    1. Thank you, Clark, and the only genius is Nick; it’s his story, his amazing photos, and his parenthesises.

The cold — yes, the cough hangs on and on. I’m quite thoroughly bored with being under-the-weather now.

    1. Thank you, and I hope my cold is listening to your good wishes.

The book is also Nick’s (Spira’s), not just mine. Without his photos, there’d be no book. 🥰
