24.10: Ten Things of Thankful

This has been an up and down week. “Smart Meter” installation cancelled because “sorry, we don’t know why our engineer didn’t show up, so let’s reschedule for next month,” and then a new piece of specialised equipment arrived today, which should make my life easier; a huge storm (called Benjamin) blew through SE England and headed straight for France and Belgium with 100mph winds, but there’s still ten thing to be thankful for — so here we go:

1. Thankful for a roast chicken that serves up dinner for three night: Sunday roast dinner; chicken dumpling soup; chicken and asparagus pie.

2. Thankful for reminders that humanity is old but life is short; an amazing view from the road to Salisbury to take a friend out for lunch.

3. Thankful beyond words that a friend is feeling stronger as the week progressed — his sense of humour, too. Laughter is powerful medicine.

4. Especially thankful for a bit of colour lingering in the garden. I am so not ready to face months of grey and drizzle and frost and ice, and having to turn on the lights at 3pm …

5. Thankful for zoom-lens camera technology in mobile phones. I love taking quick photos with it. This bird is about the size of my thumb. It’s a blue tit.

6. A walk down a footpath near home. Nothing helps a person gain perspective and calm than a walk in the fresh autumn air.

7. Thankful that a close friend’s knows that I’m just a phone call away when he needs me.

8. Thankful that I’ve learnt to look down when I’m walking — usually. Yes, the bruise is gone; flexibility is still a wee bit restricted (can’t scratch my back yet.), but things are improving week on week.

9. A walk across the ‘Sussex downs’ at Beachy Head; green winter wheat starting to grow in the fields. This is pirate country: 18th century smugglers stashed French wines in the chalk caves to avoid the taxman (aka ‘gauger’).

10. Thankful for the opportunity to work on a 20-month project, and (finally) finish it — I have such a good feeling about it. Thank you.

  2. Apple and yogurt: healthy food, and no need to clean the oven afterward. 😁

  3. Now I’m curious about what your project is. I also know you might tell us if its appropriate.

That blue tit tiny bird photo looks great, and so do the other photos.

I wish you a good week ahead.

  6. When every meal had to serve many and leftovers always went into the next meal, roasts which could be the basis of several meals were such a help.

Your list made me smile, and congratulations on the project.

  7. Love them all Marilyn, especially Nos. 1 and 5 not that 5 would provide more than a mouthful let alone 3 meals! I like the song to which I have heard before before…

    1. 🤣 No that little tit wouldn’t be much use except as toothpicks. I love that song. It was playing in my head all day.

    1. LOL! I didn’t even notice that little bump up there. Can I borrow your eyes from time to time? 🤣

      #3 – big time grataloriousness*.

*Soon to be word. I mean if pseudonymization can be a word, why not grataloriousness
