20 Sept: Ten Things of Thankful

words: Ten Things of Thankful on the left with autumn veg and fruit on the right side
In no particular order:

One of my dearest friends had TAVR surgery (heart valve replacement) — all went well, and she’s already back home.

Thankful that it wasn’t our underground sewer drainage pipe that collapsed. My poor neighbour across the street. Diggers to arrive tomorrow to start work making a trench for access.

Thames Water van at my neighbour's house.

Thankful that I’m able to take a long walk in the forest by myself, and feel safe doing so.

My crow. Well, he’s not really mine — I think it’s the other way around actually. It has random patches of white feathers: so he’s a “pied crow” — folklore says they represent duality, light and dark, often protectors.

Thankful for a seemingly endless supply of Cox apples.

Fresh out of the oven, a homemade loaf of Danish rye bread with seeds, rye flakes, and dark rye flour.

Thankful for simple yet unbelievably tasty recipes. This pasta sauce has just 3 ingredients.

Thankful for time to do nothing but just mess around and do silly stuff.

For the challenge and joy of writing Six Sentence Stories.

Two Sixes this week:
Crow and The Syrup

And finally, but certainly not least: I am thankful that a friend pressed the point that I shouldn’t let moronic insinuations pass unchallenged. Sorted.

  2. You’re lucky to see the special type of crow. Delicious looking pasta! I like simple recipes and I used to eat pasta often. Thank you for sharing the recipe in the photo. May you have a wonderful week ahead.

  3. ayyieee the changing of the Season is made undeniable with your header image lol

notice your forest is still green(ish) normal or delayed color change? here (in southern New England) the leaves are turning but with the semi-drought of this Summer passed, the colors already seem muted. (as is the effect of rain or lack thereof on leaves in Autumn)

    have a good week

    1. Our trees are still in heavy leaf, but interestingly our extreme drought (of months) ended with a week of steady, heavy rain — everything is setting leaves and flowers in bud again. Not good because by mid-October we’ll have hard frost and the plants will suffer.

This week will be busy and exciting: packing the car and suitcases, and snacks etc for a week in southern France (Avignon). Leave next Sunday. I love history, and this trip is one I’ve wanted to take for a long time.

Hope your week is truly excellent, Clark.

  4. Needing sewer work is the worst, I hope it all goes well for the neighbor.

I very much enjoyed your list and the picture of the crow.

    1. The trench dug was yesterday, and 4 men are working. Well, two are working and two are watching. Seems the drought caused the soil to drop a bit and one of the pipes dropped.

I’m glad you enjoyed the list this week, Mimi. Thank you.
