26 Aug: dVerse Quadrille

one line drawing of 3 mice B&W

Tumultus Mus Musculus (44-Word Quadrille)

The mice throw a rumpus —
wearing tiny top hats,
and drinking whiskey from thimbles.
They’re spinning a walnut,
and waltzing on tables.

But —
are those cat’s eyes
gleaming like diamonds
through keyholes?

Dance on, my darlings.
Dawn wants to steal your shoes.

  2. I love the images your quadrille has projected into my mind, Marilyn, of those tiny top hats, mice drinking whiskey from thimbles, spinning walnuts… And then you spring the cat on m want the mice to dance on. It reminds me a little of the old song about the mice in the windmill in old Amsterdam.

    1. It’s rats that I hate, and there are plenty of them around near the apple trees right now. Awful beasts.

  5. The music gives it an eerie atmosphere. Cat like to crash the party, especially when the mice are having one.

    1. I’m delighted that you listened to music also — I think music carries the story after the last word is read. Thanks for your comment, Lisa.
