12 Aug: dVerse Quadrille #229

AI art bright yellow dandelion in a Clear glass of water

Last Laugh of a Dandelion

That little flower refused to shut up —
jabbering of moon-drunk alley cats,
tomorrow’s lost socks,
and how the dark craves mischief
like a thief craves silvered moonlight.
“Hush,” I pleaded, but it only laughed,
“I’m a dandelion
who refuses to be a weed.”

Soundtrack note: “Some flowers gossip in moonlight, some in mercy — either way, the night listens.” Strange Mercy by St. Vincent.

Written for dVerse Poets, and De’s Quadrille #229 including the word “jabber” — Soundtrack note: “Some flowers gossip in moonlight, some in mercy — either way, the night listens.” Imagery and poems/prose ©Misky 2006-2025. 3. Loooove. Especially:
    “jabbering of moon-drunk alley cats,
    tomorrow’s lost socks,
and how the dark craves mischief”

And that song line? Also stunning. All so stunning. Whew.

    1. Aaah, De, it’s all down to your wonderful quadrille prompts. I always try to write to them when I’m able. So, *thank you*!

  4. I love this poem, Marilyn, the dandelion that refused to shut up, especially the ‘jabbering of moon-drunk alley cats, tomorrow’s lost socks’ and the final lines – a defiant dandelion.

  5. Of course… dandelions have that strength… and often they bring color to the worst places.
