14 May: Journal of Thoughts

ai art: storm, rain, muddy, morning, clouds and light.

While Lightning Took Apart the Sky

While lightning took apart the sky,
and rain fell in muddy lustre—
morning arrived. Pockets of light
and clouds splitting their seams open,

and even crows paused their voices,
stuffed with static
and an aftertaste of storm.

I set the table—knives and forks,
and plates with edges to the horizon—
and tea and toast with jam
made from last summer’s riot.

And the honey—oh the honey—
just sunlight that forgot to let go.

This day is a house on fire*—
a morning with new beginnings,
and we are the only ones
not running for water.

  1. Yes, it’s so much like the steady drip of rain from a window ledge. Thank you, N.

    1. Caleb, I’ve just made a few tweaks that might help you understand this one a bit easier. Give it a read again, my friend.

  2. A day when everything just seems to fall into place because you are too content to accept it otherwise, is the feeling I get from this.
