5 April: Ten Things of Thankful

In no particular order:

I’m thankful that endings lead to new beginnings

The hypnotic bliss of deadheading daffodils

A warm day and a barbecue—the scent of summer coming.

Extreme surrealism and Borges’s The Aleph.

The privilege of being at my friend’s side as her beloved dog died.

Peter Gundry’s music

To waltz around the kitchen, but never alone.

This one I’ll keep to myself, but I am ever-so-ever-so thankful.

A really efficient new accountant.

That I chose Lando.

        1. Tomatoes; cucumbers; chilli peppers; tons of annuals … plus my herb garden which needs reseeding almost every year (except of the rosemary and sage).

            1. I’m in the UK but I googled it and the USDA number is 9a. We have a greenhouse which means we can start earlier than people who are sowing directly into the ground.

              1. We’re in USDA 5a, so it’s only just begun.

No way you could be in 9–that’s like Florida. Even with the Gulf Stream… I’m in 7 or 7b, and last frost is April 15, which looks to be about right even though it was around 88 yesterday.

                1. If you google growing zone Crawley West Sussex UK it says 9. And then there’s https://www.gardenia.net/guide/hardiness-zones-in-the-united-kingdom

                  So I don’t know. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had to look. You really are “Florida” in terms of Winter lows! I had no idea. It’s so much more extreme here, skews my world view (not just politically).

                    1. Happily we don’t have Florida type heat in the summer. I’d not cope—no houses have air-conditioning in the UK, and although it can be added after the fact (something we’ve looked into with climate changing), planning permission makes it next to impossible because of “noise“. For FFS we live about 10-miles from an airport, and the council approved building permission for houses under the flight path, and they think an air conditioner is subject to restrictive control??! So we bought a little portable one that can be moved from one room to another, and although not perfect, I hope it will keep me from toppling over like last summer.

    1. Verstappen on pole, but Lando 2nd. I’m going to hit the record timer myself (harrumph) before going to bed to be sure that I see it all.

    1. Thanks, Clark. Being that it was nearly April Fool’s Day, I was thinking of changing the font colour to white (but obviously didn’t).
