A Haibun to Darkness

a chair by the window with a view into the garden, wintery scene

Waiting for the Dark

I sit by the window, the winter trees watching over me as daffodils push through soil and crocuses wait for tomorrow’s sun, and I write this, the light fading until gone, until the paper is more part of darkness than day, and I sit through the hour into night, alone by the window and unable to read what my hand has given … just to see what I cannot see.

A weathered window
Clouds of linen sheets of rain
Day belongs to night

  1. Another wonderful Haibun, Misky! Another text that I can really identify with – only the crocuses are still a long way off it seems.

    1. Thank you. I’ve kept a garden diary for decades, and the snowdrops and croci are blooming 3-weeks earlier than 10-years ago. But I have to admit that I’m not enamoured with winter so I’ll not complain 😊

      1. I don’t like winter either. I struggle through it every year. So I’m flying to the sun in a week. Yes, even if some people want to make us believe that there is no climate change, the crocuses and snowdrops remain stubborn 🙂

  3. I tried to kid myself Spring was nearly here by buying a bunch of dafodils for a quid in Tescos. Didn’t work though.

    1. Temps are dropping again next week, I hear. I bought some daffs at Sainsbury’s and they wilted before I returned home. Tesco always has the freshest ones.
