In no particular order:
1. Lovely soft cashmere bed socks on a freezing cold night; my feet are eternally thankful for small mercies.
2. British strawberries in December. I am thankful for agricultural miracles but may I have a Christmas Mandarin orange, please.
3. I suppose I should be thankful that it’s not snowing, but this anticyclonic weather system just sucks joy out of me and everyone I talk to; low-hanging frozen fog, stale air, frozen drizzle, dangerous air quality, and it’s no wonder the English are preoccupied with weather.
4. The Christmas Market in London from Tower Bridge to London Bridge: pop-ups with all variety of international flavours and food; British cheeses; eastern European breads, Scottish kippers and smoked salmon; sweets and sweets and sweets of astonishing colour; hot chocolate and spiced wine; and a few unexpected things like brass Tibetan singing bowls. I am thankful for the sights, sounds and flavours of life’s joys.
5. Ever so thankful that my youngest son was once our postman’s daughter’s 5th grade teacher, and that the postman thinks so highly of our John that he is willing to tuck packages into a safe place for us rather than returning them to the post office for us to collect.
6. I am extremely thankful that I wasn’t the person who found a tarantula in their bunch of bananas. I love spiders when they stay outdoors and eat mozzies, but I sure don’t want to bite into one. No photos for this one! Thankfully!
7. The text messages reminding me to take my pills. I am so very thankful. ❤️
8. The aroma of the Christmas cake baking in the oven.
9. I am thankful that I only have to wait one more week to hug our John, Gabi, Luisa and little Nico.
10 … and finally, for every last one of you, but who’s counting.
