A Poem for Still Life …
Moon. Trees. River. Fallen leaves.
One plain brown bird whose heart
Rings like trinkets. Winged chorister.
Each star. A far beacon breaks
A new day for an old world. Every
Dawn writes new poems for thee.
I would not teach a nightingale to
Sing sweetly, nor snout this night
For truffles under a halo moon.
A young north wind feeds the air.
My winter garden. Leaves of light.
I dream of kisses all this night.
Be a fallen leaf. A jewel we want
To taste. Be birdsong to still my air.
I’ll drown in your thousand springs.
