16 Nov: Poem-a-Day Challenge

my photo: dying mouse, grey, on the patio, grey stones,

Nameless …

He knew the measure of it
when he ran along the fence,
knew the measure
of cold heavens shining.

Four bones, thinner than night –
on limbs to carry him tirelessly.
And his fur was the colour
of salt-edged sand or wind
scattered across frost.

And I hummed him a tune of
5 twilight notes, an ancient
summoning lest we forget,
a tune to open a door.

He fled from here
and into the next, as if
death was a star
and my hand was his cloud.

And I said “Farvel, min lille.”

    1. It’s perfect. It’s very “pentatonic”. Thank you so very much for this lovely accomplishment.
