Countess Elizabeth Báthory of Ecsed (info at Wikipedia)

A vampire’s shrine
with tall candles lit
each trembling shadow’s flame
is pierced.
She stands in her temple,
weaving vows
one long song
for a full moon’s glare
strangling the tranquil air.
…Quiet …Be still.
Here where blood is life;
here her life’s prolonged.

  1. Mesmerizing, the language, the art, as both complement to weave this atmosphere laden with “shadow,” “song” and strangled tranquility. The latter description — “strangling the tranquil air”– is so dead on brilliant! Loved it, Misky.

  2. So atmospheric, Marilyn! I love the image of the tall candles piercing ‘each trembling shadow’s flame’ like fangs piercing skin’, and the ‘one long song for a full moon’s glare strangling the tranquil air’.
