Six Sentence Story: Part 28, An Equal Division of Light and Dark

last week‘s post

An Equal Division of Light and Dark

Pierre comes home next week … but to what, to our intricate web, spun soft, occasionally smooth, heavy as Dido’s sword.

It’s just before daybreak, and I’m fixated on a spiderweb that laces over the upper 90° angle of the bedroom window. My thoughts wander to where nothing moves and nothing stirs, like a book with a state of consciousness, or a whisper in a jar, and I long for daybreak when I can become shade’s shadow … I am an equal division of light and dark – I am autumn’s equinox.

Hanzō and I popped in at the SSC&B last night – around midnight; lipstick on glasses; leathery-cedar scented cigar smoke; long legs, short skirts, stilettos, and meticulous manicures; a band on stage including a dark-throated double base; present tonight, a manager who’s long as a drainpipe and thin as a foil …and clientele popping with thirst.

And for a brief moment – a sideways glance at Hanzō, the light catching his profile, his cheek bones, the line of his nose, and he smiled, “What, Brigid?” … and I just shake my head, “Nothing, nothing, never mind me.”

There are already too many kinks and tics and twinges in life’s tangled mess.

  5. Your first three sentences set the tone beautifully, Misky. Brigid appears to be straddling more than one reality; one which appears will soon be altered. Hanzō is proving invaluable in her journey.
Another engaging installment. Keep it going 😎.
