27 May: Quadrille #202

View From Behind Closed Eyes

sometimes
I close my eyes
and pretend that noon
is midnight,
and that the stars are shining
because

“Hati-the-Wolf” never
swallowed the moon
which caused stars to disappear,

and because
when I close my eyes
everything is darkness,
and my memory sees perfectly again.

  8. I love the wonky circularity of your quadrille, Marilyn, the brief but effective touch of mythology at the heart of it, and when I close my eyes ‘my memory sees perfectly again’ too.

  9. I like the sequence, had to get the wolf into the word picture. I go right to sleep with head on pillow and eyes closed. My mother taught me. Oh yes, I have had a picture of the grey wolf at night ever since I can remember.

  15. Yes. The darkness achieved by simply closing our eyes, which we do for better recall, for better envisioning. Very cool.
