10 November: 04 Völuspá

AI artwork, Mótsognir, Lord of Dwarfs, white hair, white beard, forest, mythic appearance.

Mótsognir

I, drawn of dread juices of flesh,
born from Ymir’s breast and bone,
and dreaded buzz of wings,

I, dreaded spawn of blue bottles.
Drawn from a maggot’s coddle.
I, born under a constellation
of blustery red … by the gods,

I am Mótsognir

who drank from the spume
and foam of courage and might.
Who was the first born, lord of dwarfs.

I am Mótsognir,

who dwells within the earth,
soil pressed against my palm,
and amongst rocks
my talons crawl.

I am Mótsognir,

from the abyss of dead tooth’s veil,
dread ointment of a wound I wail.
Bringer of black knotted clouds,

I. Am. Mótsognir,

scorned by every hair upon my head.
I. Black-hearted savage of vision’s haunt.
First born, first to want.

I, who come to Ragnarök
as a relic weapon.

Ymir: a giant and first being created from drops of water, representing chaos
Odin: The god of war and dead, ruler of Valhalla
Mótsognir: created from Ymir’s blood and bone, Lord of Dwarfs
Vala: the Seeress and sorceress of the Völuspá epic, she was resurrected by Odin

  1. Oh, excellent Misky – you do these mythical figures proud – bedtime stories from Mr Misky?

    1. Nah, nothing like, Andrew. I’ve been reading to original epic, which is the Norse version of Genesis, and it’s darkly fascinating.

  4. Suitably grim, befitting Ragnarok. Sadly, the real world seems poised on the eve of Ragnarok itself.

    1. Good call. That’s because Lord of the Rings is based on this ancient Norse epic of creation, gods, and war. No ring involved though.
