11 October: The Goatherd #12

Defy the Sky

Thunder shakes the stars
as if running naked,

and the man and his woman
sip thin soup, and listen
to thunder’s unspeakable wisdom.

Their child, Binti Mbuzi,
is a tall slim girl with a timeless heart,
fresh as the sky shines blue.

But this night is a blinding darkness,
born to defy the sky,

and the goats sleep,
only to wake if the world should fall.

And the woman tells her girl,
Never look too deep in water
when tragedy looks after you.

  2. “Never look too deep in water
when tragedy looks after you”… you have but one soul and the scars from looking into the face of absolute dark will never heal… know of the cursed duality but keep your eyes… until they need not look too deep… or, heavens forbid, …

    1. We can learn to live with scars. It’s like sleeping on stones sometimes though.

  3. Binti Mbuzi, do not fear the Old Grey Wolf approaching… he is not after you or your goats… He is summoned to repair the ring they broke… fear not… they…will.
