The Girl of Goats

The man arrived
on the back of dawn dew air.
If only, if only to turn back time.
If only to be there.

For her.

Moonlight had a creased disregard
that night – it was black
as a crushed star. The moon pulled at him,
and he knew its crush.

She told him of
cursing the wind with her teeth,
on her knees,
bloody hands spilling the earth.

And the Miracle Man’s wife
took the baby,
warm and soft as rain, and wrapped it
in cloth and thin silence.

There was chanting and singing
of women from the village.
And the baby was a girl.

The Miracle Man chose her name.
Binti Mbuzi.
The Girl of Goats.

    1. Oh, how lovely to have you alongside for this journey. 🥰 Good morning, Nick. I was oddly emotional creating this one. I (metaphorically) just gave birth to a little girl, which in reality I’m unable to do. I am living through my ink.

      1. How sacred (and lonely) the afterbirth moment is.
        Good morning, M.
That is why your ink is so powerful.

  4. Each birth is a sacred moment of possibilities bought with pain and blood, but worth it to the new mother who has now her own little soul to nurture and love. Beautiful words. You create life with your words, Misky.

    1. This is the first time that I’ve done that, created life. It left me kind of emotional. I’ll be around this evening to check on our Blaine. ❤️
