Sleep. Sleep your deep wintery sleep,
and when you wake, you’ll be a bright little star.

Children will think you can grant their wishes.
Twinkle twinkle little star, they’ll sing.

Or maybe you’ll return as some tiny pink god
from whom new civilisations will descend.

Are you here, or are you gone – have you
fledged with time, you who lived for judgement day.

So you’ll take up with the wind, hoard words
into the darkness around you.

Sweet dreams will keep you.

An ekphrastic poem written for the final issue of Visual Verse

I started submitting my work to Visual Verse in May 2016, and for 7-years they’ve published my poems almost every month. My heartfelt thanks for their support and encouragement, and I wish their staff every success in future ventures.

      1. Good morning, M.
        Thank you for your concern❤️
No, not this time… unfortunately, I feel that these devastating events are only a preview of what is to come.

        1. Does “no, not this time,” mean you are not near the danger zone? I have similar fears about the future, and this seems to have come on more quickly than science predicted.

          1. Yes; not in the danger zone of this particular event. Luckily, the forest near my home is intact… although there have been multiple attempts to burn it.

Predictions, like prognosis, are prone to failure.

            1. Attempts as in arson, or as in firebreaks.

      1. I’m not hopeful about my entry either. But I wrote for it. A step in the right direction.
