24 August: A Haibun

To Feed

A man and a woman sit in chairs that through the passing of time have become his chair and her chair. The room is a warm beige colour, the name of which neither of them can recall, but it was a popular colour a few years ago. They both have the same colour hair, although he has less of it, but the woman would never say so. The man often rubs his fist into the small of his back, and the woman often does the same to her hip and rubs her knee that’s been tender for 12-years after she slid across the icy patio, landing in a position that gymnasts often perform. The man and the woman breathe the same air without realising that they’re sharing it, and they feed each other’s dreams without loss of appetite. She often thinks they should bottle whatever it is that glues them together.

Rolling mountain springs
Shiny rocks under water
They run deep and still

      1. The most useless comment in the world is “be careful”.

        1. The most useful comment for an icy patio is “walk like a penguin”, but nobody ever says that.

          1. Walk like a Penguin. Better start practising now, so you’ll be perfect when it gets icy. Please share the video.

Does this come with a golden envelope addressed to Anyone Who Loves Somebody Enough To… ?

  5. Time to catch up with you Misky – had to go into my Reader and filter you to see how many posts I’ve missed. This is so beautiful an evocation of the comfortableness of the long distance relationship – we should all have one of those bottles…
