8 August: dVerse Quadrille “Pop”

AI artwork, abstract image of two people in motion.

The Snap and Pop

Like a shape
you don’t want
crossing your path at night,

real as an ancient tree,
a face like a chiseled wall.
He’s shadowland.

I move to make empty space between us,
but I can still hear him, snapping and
popping his chewing gum.

    1. Exactly. It sure unnerved me though. It’s a real belligerent sound.

    1. He was really getting on Peder’s nerves, too, and I kept reminding him to not say anything to the guy. In London, you simply can’t predict who will or won’t pull a knife on you.

  3. Yikes, Misky….an annoying sound but possibly worse outcome (?) judging by your comment above. I really like the description of “He’s shadowland”.

  6. London sounds a bit like New Orleans … especially my times there when the power died after Hurricane Katrina. I am so sorry you had to go through that, but glad you evaded the worst. 😦 https://rolandyeomans.blogspot.com/2023/08/the-last-night-of-your-life.html

    1. That’s life in the big city, Roland. When I was much younger someone like that wouldn’t have made me feel uneasy. But I’m not as nimble or quick moving as when I was younger.

  7. Great poem and the image reminds me of a story my mother told about the last great smog in London when it was so thick she had to walk ahead of my father in the car waving a torch…
