28 July: A Cadralor Poem

AI artwork: watercolour of Cannes waterfront and marina with birds in flight. Orange, yellow and red colours

16 July: A Cadralor Poem

I.
River Po flows sand on sand.
It’s merely, if that, a trickle.

II.
Liguria’s crescent cups Portofino.
Air scented with sea and cactus.

III.
Cannes is a slow progress
against a doubled down sun.
Swallows sweep the sunset.

IV.
Leonard Cohen is singing on the radio.
I order steak. Red and rare. Wine to match.

V.
And the air snaps and breaks from heat.

  1. That’s an interesting and challenging form and I think you do it justice. It’s a tall order to not be narrative and yet have an underlying thread.
The river Po in the first stanza instantly recalled The Little World of Don Camillo which is set in the Po valley.

    1. There’s hardly any river to speak of when we were there, and the valley is a tinder box. It’s rather shocking.

      1. Speaking with my cousin in Sicily; he used the term “polveriera” which means “tinderbox”.
I eat my steak red and rare with wine to match.
        Buon pomeriggio, cara Misky ❤︎

  2. “And the air snaps and breaks from heat.” This describes Southwest Louisiana lately! Great handling of a difficult challenge, 🙂 https://rolandyeomans.blogspot.com/2023/07/song-of-battle-of-operation-tiger.html
