There’s a Man in the Kitchen

He says he’s going
earth mother with an apron.
He’s taken over the kitchen.
He’s making bread.

Danish rye bread.
Dense as a winter nest.
Strong flour and rye, seeds
and flakes, malt and

“can I have some of your sourdough starter,” he says it has stamina.

He stirs and mixes.
It’a sticky and tacky and clings
as he slings it about,

and I say, “Stretch and sploot it.”
and he says, “Sploot?”
