24 July: Quadrille #180 Water

When Summer Smiles

Blissful, this honeysuckle to the bees,
kisses of Nirvana, clustered fruited trees.

Hear the sweetness, a skylarks’s sprinkled song,
clear as water down a thirsty throat.

I’ll plant apple trees, its slant toward the sun,
and on the table, rosebuds bending in a vase.

  9. You are so amazingly talented. Water images are cruel down here with this heat! 🙂 Both verse and image are beautiful. Times get worse for Blaine: https://rolandyeomans.blogspot.com/2023/07/the-charge-of-rocinante.html

  10. Sunshine and water are proverbial enemies. Water hides the sun in cloud form, sunshine boils the water away or melts the ice, et al.

  11. That slight bend. That love that is dependence. You capture these subtleties so beautifully.

  12. Your quadrille is just beautiful, Marilyn! The title alone is sublime. I love the Nirvana kisses, the sibilant ‘sweetness, a skylark’s sprinkled song, / clear as water down a thirsty throat’, and the simple but vivid image of ‘rosebuds bending in a vase’.
