Thanks For Asking

The firewood shifts a little,
and I remember that
I miss you.

Our video calls.
You always cared enough to ask,
How are you.

Our letters
and humour still flow
over me, a soft-lipped smile
to touch the earth.

Your voice
is still singing –
a sparrow’s song in leaves green,
tunes pooling in every corner.

You shine bright,
a moon’s white crescent over Lake Goodwin.
Lay down your shadow,
and summon the flowers.

Oh, heaven-sent.
You are rooted in my heart.
How are you.

I’m doing okay.
Thanks for asking.
