Day 20: Imagine you are a nature-inspired artist using materials found in the great outdoors.

On a Collage

In this secret chamber wood,
my knobby walking stick did break.

In these cloistered thick-thatched trees,
where light of day does rarely reach,

my walking stick,
though just a stick,

caught in a hole, a hare’s perhaps,
quite near a dry tree trunk.

It cracked as loud as gunshot,
a sound rising high as fireflies,

and there I fell upon the forest floor,
on a collage of leaves, and twigs,

my nose in roots and mushrooms,
and truly so much more.

    1. Yes, I never go into forest without Mr Misky. He has a nose for finding his way out of the woods. I’m usually too busy falling down rabbit holes.

      1. We are surrounded by a nature preserve.
My first outing alone after surgery I got lost … less than 1/4 mile from house.
        Pfft!

        1. We live near a quite large (and ancient) forest with some of the oldest oak trees in the parish. Not very many trails, so it’s easy to end up who knows where. That hole could’ve been a rabbit or a badger set, but I’m beginning to think badger is more likely. There’s also no mobile/GPS signal in there, so you can’t find your out with Apple or Google Maps.

          1. Same here! I never go walking there alone;
it might be the last time anyone sees me!

    1. I’m fine. My dicky knee wasn’t too happy about it, but it’s okay now. ♥️

  4. I do not assume that this happened to you Misky as you are well able to fabricate it from your imagination – either way it reads as a little story – fabulous…
