13 June: dVerse Quadrille “Present”

B&W woman wearing hat and woollen jacket, street scene.

She Pronounced It “on-wee”

I know a woman who doesn’t
live in the present. She fills
sentences with fripperies,
complains her wearied life
is glittering emptiness, says
she suffers arm in arm with
fretful boredom. She once
used the word ennui.

Goodness, I had to look it up.

Written for Lilian’s Quadrille prompt on dVerse Poets. This week’s word to include is “present”. Artwork is created using Midjourney. Imagery and poems ©Misky 2023.

  1. Well it does look kinda French in origin. Do you know if it is?

      1. I cn’t remember coming across it over there, but I’ve forgotten a lot of the vocab I once knew. I was toying with the idea of going to Saint Malo in September again, that’ll be a big deal for me, to get over there.

  3. Oh…there are a thousand stories in this picture!
Not taking the bait with ennui…anything but that is present 🌳

    1. I rather like the graininess of the image. Adds another dimension to the whole thing.
