4 June: Her Dog #thewildness

AI digital art. a woman in black and a black dog in a vine-like forest

Those wicked days that pressed. Persistent. Pervasive. Such deep darkness. Such endless exhaustion. The numbness was a disconnect. Fatigue, to sleep. To dream. Aches, the pains of mind and bone. And her dog stayed faithful, never begging, ever quiet, a constant breath, and they waited out that wicked dark depression.

This ancient feeling
Like dying constellations
Her black dog. Black dog.

Written for #thewildness Day 4: a magical encounter with a (wild – though not in this case) animal. Artwork is created using AI Midjourney. Imagery and poems ©Misky 2023.

    Brava, M!

( black dog, black dress, black ink… sign me up!)
And MJ’s pic… the back panel just complemented the hell out of the main subjects.

    1. Thanks, Nick! The only tweak on reality here is that the dog was a Springer. In my mind, that dog saved me. Best dog ever. I swear that dog knew me inside out.

      1. I know exactly what you are saying.
There is not enough space here to sufficiently express my love for dogs.
21 years ago they poisoned mine…and I still mourn his loss…and treasure the lifetime we shared.
As I have written once: ” I am my dog’s ( or angel as I call them) human… not the other way around”.

        1. This is beyond tragic, to lose a friend in such a way. And yes, we continue to mourn our loss no matter how long our lifetime might be.

  3. So Good – both the description of the Black Dog metaphor and the link to the faithful real dog. Was it prompted by these dog days we have been having?

    1. Good morning. Thanks, Andrew. It was brought on by the death of my father many decades ago. Happily, I’ve never fallen that deep into it again.

  4. This is so very dark; the lifelessness in her eyes; the total lack of welcoming warmth.
Even the dog has hollow eyes.
    It’s abysmal, forlorn and depressing.
I love it to pieces! ❤︎

  5. They call it ‘black dog’, yet if anyone can bring us out of a depression, it’s a dog, of any colour.

  8. Jane is right: if any thing can snap us out of a black mood, it is a beloved dog. I know my Border Collie, Lucky, could. https://rolandyeomans.blogspot.com/2023/06/shadow-truths-last-longest.html
