13 May: Only When Spoken To

AI digital art, a girl, eyes closed, lips tight, wind-swept, hand-drawn sketch

Only When Spoken To

A child’s voice silenced and starved,
left wide-eyed and twisted as bedsheets.

She wanted words to curl up with her,
to share her uninterrupted silence,

and the air wonders what long curse
was left sighing in the willows.

    1. When I was nearly 2, I was mistaken for a doll sitting on the sofa. My mother was very proud of that, her little girl that sat so still and quiet that everyone thought I wasn’t real. Pfffft!

    1. No, you don’t. Just because a woman is quiet, doesn’t mean that they’re not ticking over inside.

  3. Misky, you are right: some quiet children … and women are ticking bombs! 🙂 https://rolandyeomans.blogspot.com/2023/05/the-night-is-dark-and-i-am-small.html
