24 April: A-to-Z Challenge

AI artwork, thunderstorm cloud over wheat field

T is for Thunderstorm

Do ants stop, as I do,
and listen to distant thunder roll.

Do they lift their feet on hot sand.

Do they know that come July
they’ll sprout wings and fly.

Do ants’ eyes narrow when lightning strikes.

For A-Z Challenge. Thunderstorm: A local storm produced by a cumulonimbus cloud and accompanied by lightning and thunder. Written for the A-to-Z Challenge. Declared theme for the challenge is Weather. AI Digital Artwork is created using Midjourney. Imagery and poems ©Misky 2023 Shared on Twitter #amwriting #atozchallenge @midjourney

  1. Do they even have ears?

    1. Apparently, not. They “listen” through their feet – vibration.

            1. Love Cirencester. We always stop over there when we’re truffling through the Cotswolds. Did you go into the old cathedral? It’s an amazing place, but then I love old churches and their history.

    1. Thanks! Having a lovely time with family. Lots of food and conversation. I’m doing a lot of walking, which helps my back feel better. Sitting is still problematic, but things are improving. Thankfully, I’m able to walk. Back home this weekend.

  3. What beautiful imagery to go with evocative photography and question. The Sicilian Storyteller mentioned your time away. I hope all is well with you. https://rolandyeomans.blogspot.com/2023/04/t-is-elusive-as-smoke-in-night-sky.html

    1. All is well, Roland, and thanks for asking. I’m in Denmark with family who’ve not seen for nearly 3-years because of Covid restrictions. I’ve cuddled new babies, attending confirmation ceremonies of teenagers, visited parents and grandparents graves, and ate food and ate food and ate food (puffing out cheeks!).

  4. I love this one! Of course, I don’t think ants are physically capable of narrowing their eyes, but that’s the magic of poetry, isn’t it.
